J. Timothy Smith

Mr. Smith was born on July 11, 1966, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and was admitted to the Arkansas Bar in August of 1991. Before starting the Elliott and Smith Law Firm with partner Don Elliott in September of 2006, Mr. Smith was a partner at the Odom and Elliott Law Firm located in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Mr. Smith was hired by Odom and Elliott Law Firm as a law clerk after his first year of law school, and then hired as an associate upon graduation from law school. During his time as a student at the University of Arkansas he was a member of the Arkansas Razorback football team, where he was a two-year letterman.

EDUCATION & COURT ADMISSIONS

He received his education from the University of Arkansas (B.A. Communications 1988) and from the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville (J.D. 1991). Mr. Smith is a founding partner of the Elliott and Smith Law Firm, where he handles personal injury cases involving 18-wheeler tractor-trailer collisions, motor vehicle collisions, motorcycle collisions, nursing home neglect, injuries arising from defective products, as well as a multitude of other personal injury claims. Mr. Smith is rated “AV-Preeminent” by Martindale-Hubbell.

LEADERSHIP, MEMBERSHIP & HONORS

Mr. Smith is a past president of the American Board of Trial Advocates, Arkansas Chapter; past president of the Washington County Bar Association; and past president of the William B. Putman American Inn of Court. In 2016, Mr. Smith was recognized by Legal Aid of Arkansas as their Volunteer Attorney of the Year for the 4th Judicial District of Arkansas for 2015. Mr. Smith is a fellow of the Arkansas Bar Association, a member of the Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association, a member of the American Association for Justice, and a member of the American Bar Association.

In April of 2016, Mr. Smith presented a Civility Matters program to the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville, Arkansas, to educate third year law students on the principles of civility in the practice of law. Additionally, Mr. Smith participates in the ABOTA Trial Practice Series each year at the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville. In this series, members of the Arkansas Chapter of ABOTA teach second a third-year law students the ins and outs of trial practice in a classroom setting.
